Year 8 News
Warm welcome.
The staff of the Year 8 team would like to extend a warm welcome to all students, parents, and carers to the 2023 school year.
This year the Year 8 team members are: Karen Anders (Team Leader); Robin Fitzpatrick (Science, PE and Health); Andy Wright (Science and Maths); Gabi O’Bree (Maths); Julia Groves (English and Humanities); Chris Flake (Food Technology); Nathanial Isacs (Health and PE); Amala Ramasamy (English and Humanities).
We are beginning the year with a strong focus on being on time, being in uniform, being in class and being on task. Students are settling into the school routine and have been highly engaged in their classes. If you would like to discuss any issues concerning your child or would like to know more about the Year 8 program, please contact the Year 8 team.
If students arrive at school out of uniform without a note, they will be required to change into school supplied uniform for the day and complete a detention at recess. If your child is out of uniform, please provide a signed note, which explains why your child is not wearing uniform on a particular day. Your child will still be required to change into supplied school uniform but will not be required to complete a detention.
This year, the lockers are outside near the Music Rooms. This area will be unlocked at 8.00am each morning, which gives students 25 minutes to collect their books for the first two periods before the morning bell goes at 8.25am.
Each Monday – Thursday, all students will begin period 3 with a 15-minute Form Group or Assembly. We have a year level assembly on Tuesdays. This will take place in the Library and starts at 11.00am. Form Group takes place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. It is during this time that the students are provided with any information about the school day and where permission forms are handed out. The students then move to their TR@K classes.
A reminder that students are expected to have a charged laptop and that students need to bring their laptop to all classes. Staff in the Year 8 team will be working to determine which students have their own laptop. To assist your child to develop good organisational habits, can parents/guardians please ensure that your child brings a charged laptop to school.
The Year 8 Camp will be at Karoonda Park for a week from February 27 – March 3rd. Karoonda Park is based close to the Snowy River. Students will stay in cabins in groups and will take part in many activities such as abseiling, flying foxes, horse riding, rafting on the Snowy River, orienteering, swimming, and much more. Details will be confirmed over the following week.
Applications for student leaders are currently being finalised. Our Year 8 leaders will be announced next week. They will meet regularly as a part of our Student Representative Council (SRC).
Students in year 8 have been learning about one and two-point perspective drawing, where all lines converge to one or two vanishing point. Students have completed their one-point perspective words and have started to draw their two-point perspective city streets.
