Getting Started with Year 7
Welcome, everybody! Overall, students are happy, well mannered, getting along with others and interested in their learning. There is always the challenge of remembering all the necessary equipment, and carrying it! It has been a giant leap from a tub in the classroom to a combination lock in a busy corridor! We are noticing that many students are confident to ask questions of their Year 10 Peer Support Leaders, teachers, long-standing and new friends.
Workbooks have been set up to help all students organise their learning. There should be one workbook for each subject so students have easy access to their notes, can look back on content to practise skills and take pride in their effort and progress. Students are being acknowledged and/or rewarded for their workbooks, bringing equipment, class participation, support and respect of others (to name a few), as part of the Positive Behaviour Support Program.
TheTargeted Reading Program at Kurnai (TR@K) is underway with all students placed in a group according to their ability levels.
The combination lock has required a lot of practise. Well done, students, for being patient and not giving up.
Our Year 10 Peer Support Leaders (some shown in the photos) have earnt their place in the Year 7 Building. They are keen to assist students as they settle in, often seen helping with locks, walking students to class and modelling positive behaviour and manners.
The year 7 students have been learning about appropriation in art, which is using an existing artwork and adding or changing at least 40 % of the original. Students have taken the image of Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci and mixing it with an animated cartoon of their choice.
2022 Grade 6 Dux Students are off to a confident start in Year 7 at Kurnai Churchill. The students who are featured here with Darren Campbell, the Year 7 Team Leader, have already had enjoyable and challenging experiences to begin their journey into secondary education.
Finn, who is from Yinnar P.S. really enjoys Maths and Cooking. He said that he has had lots of fun with his friends in the grounds.
Marcus, from Churchill P.S. has found the school to be so big he’s still exploring much of it. So far, his favourite class has been Drama.
Rahaf, from Churchill North P.S. commented on how kind the staff have been.
Riley, who is from Hazelwood North P.S. has found PE to be the best subject.
We wish all the Year 7 students the best for a terrific year!
