Principal Post

Dear Families,
Bishop Ireland comes to SJV!
We welcomed Bishop Tony Ireland to our school this morning as part of his Parish visitation. Bishop Ireland is the Auxiliary Bishop for the Southern area of the Melbourne Diocese . We will meet Bishop Ireland again at the year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation which will be held in June. Bishop Ireland met with Leadership, school students and had a tour of our school. On Saturday 18th February, he will meet with Parishioners in the Church and this meeting is open to all parishioners/school parents. (11am) Bishop Tony will celebrate the Saturday evening Vigil Mass 6pm and will celebrate the 10am Sunday Mass. A morning tea will be held at 11am in the Parish Hall and all are invited.
And the learning has begun...
As we move into our third week of schooling I congratulate our students as they begin to immerse themselves in a myraid of learning activities. Last week we began our Specialist classes and from all reports these began very well!
As we move into the term, I encourage you, as parents to regularly ask your children about their 'day at school', particularly around their learning, their progress and their challenges. Research suggests that when parents engage authentically with their children about their learning, improvements and progress are more likely to occur. It is also a good practice to ask your child to name two or three things that went well during their school day. This may be in relation to their learning or their friendships. This practice may assist children to focus on the 'positive' and to build and strengthen a positive mindset.
If your child is finding tasks difficult, it is important to talk about persistence and best effort. Students should and will be challenged and extended in their thinking. It is pretty normal that some students will experience some 'big' emotions throughout the school year particularly as they are getting use to structured learning after a holiday break.
School Photo Day
Our school photos were taken on Monday. We thank you for your support in ensuring your children were ready for this day. We anticipate the photos will be back in a few weeks time and we will distribute them as soon as they arrive.
Year 6 Ruby Polo's
How exciting that our Rugby Polos have arrived for our year 6's.
Foundation Parent Information Evening
Thank you to the parents that attended last night's information evening. It was great to see so many of you join last evening. We hope you found this to be informative and productive.
SRC Representatives for Semester 1
The SRC Badges will be presented to the SRC Representatives at NEXT MONDAY'S Assembly 20th February at 8:50am in the Performing Arts Area.
The SRC will meet regularly with School Leadership to give and discuss ideas and events and to suggest ways to improve the school. They represent the student voice. There are two elected SRC members from Year level Yr 1-6.
Meet & Greet Interviews
Meet & Greet interviews will be held next week on:
Tuesday 21st February 3.30pm - 6.00pm and Wednesday 22nd February 1.50pm - 7.30pm.
Yesterday you would have received an email with booking instructions for this 10 minute face to face meetings. Please book!
See Learning & Teaching page.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ON WEDNESDAY 22nd FEBRUARY SCHOOL FINISHES AT 1:10pm. All students need to be picked up at that time, unless booked into Camp Australia.
From the office....
It is extremely important that your contact details are up to date with the school office. This includes mobile numbers, work & emergency contacts etc. You can do this by contacting the school office. If there are any court orders, the school MUST have a copy. These must be sent to the Principal via email at admin@sjvmulgrave.catholic.edu.au
Child Safety
Please ensure you are your child understands the pick up arrangements at the end of each day. With so many students leaving the premises at the same time the school cannot be responsible for who picks up your child. Students will be taken to the office if not picked up by 3.30pm.
PLEASE BE ON TIME as staff have meetings, appointments etc.
Parking
It is unsafe to be crossing Police Road at any point other than at lights and with an adult.
- Please DO NOT PARK IN the Presbytery Carpark near our entry/Parish House. In the past, Fr David and Deslene have been blocked in or have returned and can not park.
- Do not park in or over neighbours' driveways in any surrounding street at the back of the school.
- The parking in St Johns Way is 'Kiss & Drop' - do not get out of your car.
- Council inspectors patrolled last week and will return and issue fines to anyone who is infringing any rule.
