YEAR 10-12 NEWS

Term 1

Congratulations to our Senior School students on a positive and proactive start to classes. Feedback from teachers has been positive with students making great progress towards meeting outcome 1 in subjects.

Turning Compass Green

It is fantastic to see our Compass ‘Turning Green’! Students and families are reminded that positive student chronicles are awarded to students who demonstrate our College values of "Integrity, Community & Courage". These green notes will be celebrated at regular intervals across the term.

Subject selection

Subject selection has now closed as of Friday 10 February. Thank you to those students for completing this process.

Swimming Carnival

The college swimming carnival is happening on Friday 17 February at the Lara Swimming Pool. Senior classes will be running on the day as per normal timetables. Years 10-12 students who have signed up to compete will be attending the carnival on the day, while all other students are expected to be at school to attend classes.

Meet the Mentor

‘Meet the Mentor’ night is on Wednesday 15 February from 5pm-6pm. Families are invited to the College to meet Mentor teachers and engage with our College Community. Light refreshments will be provided.

Year 11

Ms McCarthy's Year 11 PE class got hands on to revise the skeletal system this week, creating life-sized diagrams.

VCE-VM

Kitchen Garden

The VCE-VM students have taken over the kitchen garden with the vision of creating a ‘paddock and plate’ café that will open in Term 2. This week students weeded the overgrown garden beds, identifying plants and herbs in between the couch grass and thistles.

Cooking

After harvesting pumpkins from the garden, students made pumpkin soup and damper in the wood fire pizza oven. Next week students will be participating in a Safe Food Handling course and 3-day Barista course. The students are looking forward to planting seeds, watching them grow and turning the produce into nutritious snacks.

Year 12

Welcome to our new Year 12 community for 2023.

Firstly, the Year 12 team is a great team of teachers whose primary focus is to support the students as they navigate their final year of secondary schooling. The Year 12 mentors are: Lily Fowler (12A), Brett Edmonds (12B), Shona Scorringe (12V) and Brett Bullock (LCL).

Year 12 is a big daunting year for most (students and first-time households!) and there are generally lots of questions regarding all sorts of things, so please feel free to contact any of us and ask!

Our focus for the year is developing the work ethic of the students – ensuring they use their time effectively and achieve success, no matter what their plans are post school. Over the next few weeks, Brenna Loe (Pathways), Lauren Marino (Snr Sub-school leader) and myself will spend time individually with all students, setting goals, discussing pathways options and finding out what each individual needs from us to help 2023 and beyond be successful.

At this point, I should stress that no students have “spare” classes – they do have timetabled study sessions and these are an important tool in keeping on top of the mountain of work that Year 12 students are expected to complete. Please do not allow students to book non-essential appointments (such as driving lessons, hair cuts etc) in these times. Students are expected to attend the college during these times and work, seek help from teachers (whose doors are always open in year 12) and revise.

This year, we have plenty of things planned to help support our students as well, including a Yr12 breakfast, study technique sessions from Elevate education, motivational speakers and guess talks from past students.

With a big year ahead, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns or questions.
