Year Two Report

This week in Year Two, we have started our new Maths unit on Time. We are focusing on Calendars, Months of the Year, Days of the Week and Seasons. We will also be looking at the Catholic Calendar and understanding significant events during the year. We made an interactive calendar for the classroom. We can add events to the calendar such as: birthdays, special days at school like Harmony Day and Athletics Day, as well as Holy Week events. March is a busy month!

March is also the start of Autumn, so we spent some time working on adjectives to describe what Autumn looks like, sounds like and feels like. We have made predictions about the trees around the school as to whether they will lose their leaves or stay green.

On Wednesday, Galilee celebrated Harmony Day. We dressed up in traditional costumes or the colour orange to represent harmony. We wrote and illustrated a recount of the day, check out our photos below.

Dendy Swimming Carnival

On Monday the 26th of February, the chosen swimmers from years 3-6 swam against lots of other schools to make Galilee proud.

After a long bus ride we finally arrived at the pool. At 9:15 all of the Galilee swimmers got ready to participate. We did a few warm up laps to get our bodies moving. Before we knew it the open medleys began. I competed in the girls open medley. We did really well. Next was the freestyle it flew by really quickly. Then the backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Finally it was the last event, the relay. Everyone did so well in their relays and put in 100%.

Overall, it was a fantastic day and everyone enjoyed it. Galilee came 2nd out of nine schools.

Beachside Tennis

On Friday the 16th of February, Dylon Leonard, from grade 5 and I went to a Beachside tournament and this is how it worked. Basically, there were 2 sections. I was in the first one with 7 people and Dillon was in the second one with 5 people. You had to play against everyone in your section.

My first match was ok but I lost 4-2. My next 3 matches I won, 4-0,4-3 and 4-2. I was coming 3rd. I played my next match and I lost 4-3. A lot of parents liked my backhand especially because I am one handed. They also commented about my backhand saves when I run for the ball, slide and hit with my backhand.

I played my last match and lost 4-3. I was still third but they only took number one and number 2, so I was one place off.

This is the Beachside tennis tournament report.

Sincerely,
