Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Guardians
It is really delightful to be back amongst the students, staff and parents after my extended Long Service Leave. This extended break had highs and lows and gave me an opportunity to reflect on what life can bring.
Obviously the highlight was my daughter’s marriage overseas, and my son’s engagement. My wife and I can still remember when they attended Primary School as if it was yesterday.
The low point was the unexpected death of my father-in-law which resulted in our having to return to Australia sooner than we had anticipated. This experience made us realise that life cannot be taken for granted and that one needs to make the most of all opportunities that may present themselves.
This was truly exemplified by my father-in-law who, in his long 91 years of life, was a true gentleman and role model for all who knew him. He worked extremely hard to ensure that his family was always provided for. So, in many ways, many mixed emotions were experienced during my time away, together with learning opportunities.
There were times when I caught up on events and read the Newsletter, or an occasional memo. This demonstrated the ‘busyness’ of school life and allowed me to look at the school from an ‘outside’ perspective. I quickly realised just how fortunate Nazareth College students are in having so many events and co-curricular activities available for them to choose from. I thank our staff for making themselves available to lead these.
Our students themselves are great ambassadors for not just their school, but their families and themselves. These young people are standouts. They care about others and are generally compliant in all that is asked of them. I am extremely proud to tell people that I am the Principal of this outstanding Learning Hub, where it is not simply about Knowledge, but also in the Nazareth way, it is about Faith and Wisdom.
I am also extremely proud of our Year 12s for the manner in which they conducted their studies and their approach to their exams.
Our Year 9s have been outstanding in representing themselves in City Experience. It has been a wonderful learning activity which came to fruition at the Year 9 City Experience Expo, where students presented their findings and investigations.
This week we have also been able to showcase some of the fantastic work done by our Creative Arts students. Numerous pieces of artistic works have been exhibited at the Southern Independent Schools (SIS) Art and Technology Exhibition at the CUBE in Frankston. I congratulate the students and staff for their work and recognition.
Finally, I commend two of our students for being selected to represent their sport at the highest level.
Sydney Go – Badminton
Emily Page – Hockey for Australia
God Bless
