Cody Carter helping out young people in the Frankston community

Cody Carter, one of McClelland College VCAL program’s year 11 student leaders is highly respected in the Frankston gamers community assisting young, enthusiastic kids to build their confidence to attend and take part in local game tournaments, often against competitors who have performed at the national level.

Youngsters in the Frankston area interested in gaming will often be a bit nervous about giving it a go when it comes to attending tournaments with older teenagers, especially if they have never competed in these competitions before.

Game centres, such as General Games in Frankston often attract nationally ranked members of the gaming tribe, and young people who wish to join in and try out are welcomed to come along on Saturday afternoons and various other days of the week.

Young gamers, once they arrive can feel a bit nervous about competition against people a lot older than them, especially if they are alone and don’t know anybody.

Cody Carter has been a fantastic representative of our school at these tournaments helping out youngsters to get the right resources so that they are able to play the games properly and do as well as they can.

Cody is highly respected at these tournaments, not just by his mates at General Games, or by the staff running the store, but by the kids just starting out in their gaming competitions, and by parents of the kids who speak very highly of how Cody gives up his own time and resources to make sure the newcomers all feel included and part of the large group.

Cody has a reputation for helping to build an inclusive community at General Games and as a person who wants others to feel at home when they are competing. His motivations for helping others out is simply just so that they have everything they need to enjoy their hobby, so that they don’t feel left out.

Well done Cody, you truly epitomise the values of our school, community, ownership and growth
