Week 3 Term 3

From Mrs Hogg

Welcome to Education Week - where learning together looks a little different in 2020. This year the partnership between home and school has never been so important as we work together to teach the future of our country - BWPS students.

Reports have gone home today. These reports look a little different due to the home learning that occurred during Semester One. We hope that you take the time to read the reports and please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child's teacher if you have any questions.

This morning I was lucky enough to watch our newly elected SRC and SEC representatives say their oaths of office, committing to the position they have volunteered for. Check out the induction on the school Facebook page. It is fabulous to see so many responsible Burkies working together to make their school great.

Later this week, students in years 3-6 who have returned their notes will walk to Memorial Oval to compete in the school cross country. Fingers crossed the weather is going to be kind to us. If the event needs to be postponed due to the weather, the school will notify via our school Facebook page and on Class Dojo.

This year, due to COVID-19 there will be no Broken Hill or Barrier carnivals after our school sporting carnivals. Gala days have also been cancelled for 2020. The positive is that our school athletics carnival should go ahead (if current restrictions remain in place and no further restrictions are imposed). Students in years 3-6 who wish to participate in field events will do so at Picton Oval on Monday September 7 (week 8) and our track events will take place for students in years K-6 on Monday September 21 (week 10).

Staffing update

Last week we welcomed back Mr Atherton to BWPS. Mr A will be helping out at the Tutorial Centre and will be on site at Burke Ward later in the term to help out with various programs.

Miss Rhiannon Back is working at BWPS three days a week for the rest of the year. Miss Back is working in KD and EC each morning session to be an additional teacher for reading groups, working with students from both classes in this time. Miss Back is also working in HW and RW to provide release from face-to-face teaching for Miss Wells and Mr Wild.

The principal's position for Burke Ward will be advertised this term for a new substantive principal to begin in 2021. Mrs Hogg will continue as the relieving principal for the remainder of the year.

Kindergarten 2021

All Broken Hill schools are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten. Orientation days will commence in Term 4.

Please contact the office to leave your details if you have a Little Burkie due to start school in 2021.

School Photos - Change of Date

School photos have been postponed due to SA border closure. They are no longer being taken on Tuesday 4th August. The new date for school photos is Thursday, 12th November.

Envelopes went home with students last term. Every student must return their envelope even if you are not buying photos. The instructions are on the envelopes and are self explanatory.

Family photo order envelopes are held in the office and will only be given out on request.

Envelopes may be returned to the office at any time prior to photo day.
