Prep Enrolments and Transition

Covid-19 really has impacted in so many ways, including the normal practice for enrolling preps and supporting their transition into school.  Usually terms 2 and 3 are busy with conducting tours, taking enrolments and beginning the transition process with visits from the kinders and visits to the kinders.  Then in term 4 we normally run our 4 week Pre-Schooler Program and then finish with an Orientation Day.

Until recently we had hoped things would have settled enough to establish a clear way forward for the remainder of 2020.  Unfortunately that is not the case, but we are in the process of sitting down with the local kinder to discuss what the transition process might look like.

It’s likely the transition program will look different to previous years, but we’ll sort something out. We understand the importance of having children start school feeling confident and comfortable and will do our best to achieve that.

If you have a child to enrol in prep for 2021, please grab an enrolment form from the website, fill it out and send it in.  Once your child is enrolled, you’ll be on the mail out list for transition updates. Please pass this message on to anyone else who may be in the same situation.  Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.

Grade 5 Camp

Good luck to our grade 5s who head off to Halls Gap on Monday for a 3 day camp.  As you’d expect, we have put a great deal of thought as to the steps that need to be taken to keep everyone safe.  Yesterday we held an information session via-Webex and it was great for the grade 5 team to be able to explain arrangements that are in place.

In a year where the children have missed out on so much, it’s nice to be able to offer something for them to look forward to and enjoy.  We thank the grade 5 team for their work in organising and running the camp.

Music / Performance Opportunities

We’re all disappointed that the concert has been pushed to 2021, but all is not lost for those looking for some opportunities to challenge themselves, build on their musical talents and perform in front of others.

Mr Skillbeck has been promoting 2 opportunities to the students and you might like to remind your child about these or give them a little nudge to give one or both a go.  So what are we talking about?

  • Ukulele Club – Last year a Ukulele Club ran for much of the year and Mr Skillbeck is looking to get that kick started again.  All children who are interested are welcome to join Mr Skillbeck and other students in the music room on Thursday at the start of the lunch break.  The students involved get to learn how to play the ukulele and hopefully will get to perform in front of others at some stage later in the year.
  • Lunchtime Live – These events are like a mini-concert held during lunch breaks. Students are given the opportunity to audition and then perform in front of a live audience.  If the weather permits, Mr Skillbeck will use the outdoor stage for this event.  These performances can be individual or in groups.  Those who are interested need to sign up using a sheet on the music room door.  Auditions are taking place next Tuesday.
