Co-curricular - Junior Sport

We certainly have been tried and tested this year with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been the demise of many an event, gathering or sporting fixture. Luckily, for the majority of us, we have been able to grab small handfuls of normality from time to time and enjoy ourselves in some of our usual pursuits.

For one group of Junior School students, the pandemic has resulted in the entire season of events being cancelled before it could start. Our debaters have worked tirelessly over Term 2, preparing for the forthcoming season, only to have the schedule of debates wiped clean before a word could be uttered. Nevertheless, this has not put a dampener on their enthusiasm, work ethic or their desire to orate to the masses.

The boys, under the guidance of Ms Meagan Compton, have worked endless hours in the Westcourt Library developing their analytical skills and honing their rebuttal. The boys have not let the lack of competition spoil their experience. They have worked hard as a team to develop their own debate topics and have created affirmative and negative positions. The boys will put these arguments to the test in a series of internal debates to be held during lunches in the coming weeks.

Ms Compton and the Junior School debaters should be congratulated on their efforts during these extraordinary times. They are a great example of making the best of a difficult situation and a shining light of the benefits of keeping a positive attitude when the chips are down. I look forward to hearing the boys compete and know the arguments will be scintillating.

Well done gentlemen!

Unfortunately, round 3 of Junior School sport was washed out last weekend. With only three rounds left, the season will be over before we know it. I encourage all boys to make the most of the remaining opportunities with Rugby, AFL and Football and to keep working hard for their teammates and the College. Please keep up the great work with following COVID procedures and being flexible with the differences that exist between schools. Your assistance in this area has gone a long way to keep the season alive and made it an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
