Week 10 Term 2

From Mrs Hogg

Welcome to Week 10, the last week before school holidays, and for the BWPS community, NAIDOC week.

The 2020 National NAIDOC Poster, Shape of Land, was designed by Tyrown Waigana, a Noongar and Saibai Islander man.

Tyrown’s artwork tells the story of how the Rainbow Serpent came out of the Dreamtime to create this land. It is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal Land.

NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula.

The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples.

NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country – a history which dates back thousands of generations.

Students will be involved in a variety of activities throughout the week to celebrate NAIDOC week.

We would like to officially open the week with this virtual opening ceremony.

I hope everyone has a safe and restful holiday. Thank you for the wonderful support you have shown throughout this trying term. So much has happened in 10 weeks! School will resume for students on Tuesday 21st July.

Friday Funday

We hope all staff and students will join in our Friday Funday and come to school with their NAIDOC shirts or red, yellow and black clothing! If not participating, students should wear their normal sports uniform.

It was great to see so many students getting into the spirit last Friday when students and staff came to school in their pyjamas!

We hope everyone has enjoyed the Friday Fundays this term.

School Photos

School photos will be taken on Tuesday 4th August. Envelopes went home with students today. Every student must return their envelope even if you are not buying photos. The instructions are on the envelopes and are self explanatory.

Family photo order envelopes are held in the office and will only be given out on request.

We love reading!

Our teachers have a love of reading and we regularly share quality texts with our students. Every week we will be sharing a video of one of our teachers reading a favourite book (of which we have many!)

This week we have Mr Wild reading The Star Gift.
