Principal's Update

Paul Clohesy

Dear families,

It is difficult to believe that we are already over the halfway mark of the term. The past two weeks have seen many events and activities take place which I hope have provided fantastic experiences and memories for the students.

Last Tuesday we were finally able to gather as a whole school for the first time since ANZAC Day last year.

Our student leaders ran an assembly on the oval for all students and teachers. During the assembly we treated to a musical item from Mrs Kerr and Year 7 student Diamond Miller, which was a highlight.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season in the Church and our Year 12 students ran a moving ceremony for all year levels last week. The students did a remarkable job leading all the students and distributing the ashes.

This week we have a number of different events running. Our Year 10 Adventure Camp is running all week with half of the students attending from Monday to Wednesday and the other half from Wednesday to Friday.

Some of the activities the students will be participating in include a visit to Live Wire Park, surfing, ocean kayaking and bush walking along the Great Ocean Road.

Year 11 and 12 Retreats are taking place from Wednesday to Friday this week. The aim of the Retreats are for students to take time out of their busy lives to reflect on key themes, spend time getting to know each other and learning from the stories of others.

The Retreats play a vital role in our school living out its Catholic culture as do the reflection days that are also taking place this week for Years 7, 8 and 9.

Our College Open Day is approaching fast. We are looking forward to welcoming current and new families and outlining the difference an education at Trinity College can make to all children who are enrolled here.

Open Day also provides an opportunity for our current and future families to meet staff and students and tour our wonderful facilities. Like last year, tours will take place between 9 and 11am and again from 3.45pm in the afternoon with the event finishing at 7pm.

The involvement and voice of parent/carer representatives in the direction and operation of Trinity College is vital. Our first School Advisory Council meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday afternoon.

Our College benefits from the wide variety of skills and advice our parents/carers provide us. Our current School Advisory Council members are: Adrian Murphy – Chair, Mark Billing, Kate Borch, Michelle Carmody, Sandra Darwin, Chris Kemp, Fr Michael O’Toole and Catholic Education Ballarat Secondary School Consultant – Tim O’Farrell.

I appreciate the generosity of all members of our School Advisory Council for their willingness to contribute to the school and help us make Trinity College the best school it can be.
