Co-curricular - Junior Sport

Well, this summer season has not been an easy one. With so much rain, it really put a dampener on the outdoor sports such as Cricket, Tennis, and Softball. The boys in Basketball weren’t so badly effected with many rounds occurring at indoor venues. None the less, all sports had difficulties training during the week. Our results this term are a great indicator of the talent and ability in the Junior School. While we didn’t win every game, we were competitive and pushed all schools we challenged. The signs are very positive for Term 4 where we hope for better weather, opportunities to train and uninterrupted game time. All Summer Sport training and activities (including the Summer Sport program) have now concluded, and there is no further afternoon training for the Junior School this term.

A big thank you goes out to all our staff and coaches that took on Junior School teams this term. I understand the frustrations this Summer season has brought and thank you for your patience and perseverance with the Term 1 season. I look forward to seeing you all in Term 4 for the second half of the season.

All boys that played Basketball are to hold onto their singlets for the Term 4 season. Singlets can be returned at the end of Term 4. Please make sure you keep them in a safe place as lost singlets will incur the cost of replacing them.

Last week the Junior School participated in the Cross Country Carnival. Congratulations to Berg House on winning their first Cross Country Carnival. Congratulations also to our age champions on the day Isaac Nakhle in the 10s, Archie Ackland in the 11s and Dimitri Staveris in the 12s. I would also like to acknowledge all the boys in the Junior School for their efforts on the day. Your involvement goes a long way to helping those less fortunate as you gain sponsorships for the run. The fundraising process continues for the rest of this week and money should be brought in no earlier than Tuesday 29 March. All boys should keep working on collecting sponsorships, even though the run has ended. All money should be handed in no later than Thursday 31 March.

Junior School Winter Sport Trials will be held on Monday 28 March. These trials will take place at the College during school hours. Boys will wear their College uniform (shirt and tie) to and from school for trials and change into their PE uniform for trial activities. The exception will be boys trialling for Rugby who should wear a jersey (any jersey will do, NRL or Rugby) for the trial. Trials will conclude at the end of the normal school day and boys will be ready for normal departure from school.

Please be aware that the following items are compulsory for the trials. Boys in Rugby and AFL will need a mouth guard for the trials and boys in Football will need shin pads. Failure to have these items will mean that the boys affected will not be able to trial and will be placed in a team. It is important for the safety of all involved in trials that these items are used. Head gear for Rugby and AFL is optional but encouraged. Trials will be game based, and boys placed in teams according to how they play on the day. The 12s Football and Rugby will trial in Periods 1 and 2, the 11s during Periods 3 and 4, and 10s and AFL during Period 5. Please note that if there are only enough players to fill one team, a trial will not be necessary, and all boys will be placed in the one team.

I look forward to seeing all the boys run out on the fields for their trials next week and am excited by the Winter season commencing in Term 2.
