House and Age Athletics Championships

The 87th Annual Athletics House and Age Championships took place at the Sydney International Athletics Centre, Homebush on Tuesday 15 March.  A very big congratulation to this year’s Championship Shield winners, the Hickey House, beating out Berg by only 10 points. The senior students were outstanding, with the Year 12 students leading the way with their house spirit and amazing participation.

I make special mention of one athlete who set new College Records:

Jonathan Meaker (Year 12) for setting three new College records:

  • Senior 3000m previous record of 9.33.00 (set in 2002), new record set 9.12.58
  • Open Years 1500m previous record of 4.19.08 (set in 1980), new record set 4.13.53
  • Open Years 800m previous record of 1.59.60 (set in 2003), new record set 1.58.81

Congratulations to all the Age Champions.

Summer Sports Finals

On Sunday 20 March, the First XI Cricket and 16 Black NDJCA Cricket Team had their Grand-Finals. Unfortunately, neither team was able to get up in their matches, however, both teams deserve a congratulations on their efforts to firstly make their competition grand-finals and then to compete at such a high level on the day.

Our Baseball teams grand finals are set to take place this week with weather permitting. We wish them the best of luck.

Winter Sport

The first round of Winter Sport for the senior school will occur on Saturday 2 April against Trinity Grammar. To be adequately prepared for this, secondary school trials will continue this week and we will have an Internal Trial on Saturday 26 March. Winter Sport Trial schedules can be viewed on the sports notice boards and Team App (Documents tab).

Baseball

After a rain-soaked and muddy 2021-2022 season, the St Patrick's College First IX Baseball team played their Grand Final last night at Majors Bay as the glorious sun set under a clear blue sky. We didn’t have many of those this season so it was nice for the team, which consisted of mostly Year 12 boys, some who have played since they were in 12s together, go through the season undefeated and be able to crown their season as Champions! Michael Bejjani had a sensational game which was rewarded by being named MVP of the Grand Final by the umpires. The hill was filled with encouraging spectators who gathered to watch the last game for many of our boys. Coach Dino Vaccher has done an outstanding job as a generous, knowledgeable and supportive leader of this team and we thank him for his dedication and effort. Gratitude is also extended to the parents who have kindly scored throughout the season and Mrs De Meio who scored the final game, even though she had children playing in opposing teams! It was a great night that capped off a great season, well done team.
