Tutor Learning Initiative
The Tutor Learning Initiative is designed to support students whose learning has been affected as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative commenced in 2021 and we have been lucky enough to receive funding for it to continue this year. Selected students from across the school are receiving targeted small group teaching in either maths or writing.
Our school tutors, Tom and Ginger, have been working closely with student groups, three times a week, throughout term one. The tutor cycle lasts for six weeks, with the aim that all students will achieve an individual and specific goal. Groups consist of mixed year level students dependent on the student goals.
In writing sessions, some of the goals include spelling, handwriting, punctuation, grammar, vocabulary building and idea generation.
During maths sessions, students have participated in targeted lessons about place value, and strategies to further help them when adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing numbers.
Tom and Ginger are extremely pleased with the level of enthusiasm, enjoyment, and progress that the students are gaining from the Tutor Initiative. The program will continue throughout 2022, with new groups and goals established each term.
