YR9 COMMUNITY CRAFT 2022

Community crafts is a subject where students get to choose projects they want to create. They get to design any project that interests them or sparks their creativity. Some of the crafts the students have made this year include stuffed animals, calendars, key chains, clocks, and sculpted models. It is a relaxing elective where you can show off your talents or try out something completely new.
A wide range of strategies that students learn are trial and error, patience, being organised and taking initiative. This elective gives students the opportunity to approach their learning with a free choice and an open mind. Crafting skills that students use include sewing, painting, moulding, knitting, and sketching.
Students also learn to be resourceful with the materials as they can bring in things from home or utilise the school’s materials. The community crafts elective challenges the students to think outside the box, be innovative and experimental. To turn something such as left- over cardboard, pieces of fabric and clay into an outstanding project.
If you’re in year 7 or 8, consider choosing this class as your elective. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we have.
Sincerely, on behalf of the Year 9 Community Craft class,
Fiona Nguyen and Leah Saveski
