SHROVE TUESDAY IN JLA

JLA explored Shrove Tuesday as Lent began and the significance of this day to our identity as being a part of the St Joseph the Worker community and the Catholic community.

We began our exploration by learning about how Shrove Tuesday began and what the word Shrove means. Shrove means to confess or ask for forgiveness.  We learnt how making pancakes began as a way for people to use their rich foods such as milk and butter,  along with their meat in preparation for sacrificing these things for lent.

We also learnt how during this time, people confessed to the things they had done wrong and asked for God's forgiveness. Together, we brainstormed what rich foods could be sacrificed and what it looks like asking for forgiveness.

We made pancakes following a procedural text and using our maths skills to double the recipe. For some of us, it was our first time having golden syrup on pancakes! Our arms got very tired stirring the batter.

After we cooked our pancakes, we put our literacy skills to practise and created recounts about our experience. Check out JLA2's recounts below!
