From Catholic Education Week to Harmony Week - celebrating our faith and diversity

Weeks 8 and 9

Weeks 8 and 9

Welcome everyone to our week eight newsletter. The term seems to be going very fast. Before we know it the Easter holidays will be upon us.

Father John Prince

Last week, our new Parish Priest, Father John Prince, came over to the school, had morning tea with the staff, then visited all the classrooms to meet and talk with the children. He introduced himself to the children, and they had lots of interesting questions for Father John to answer. We are all looking forward to our new Parish priest being involved with the school and its children. We have been fortunate with the Parish Priests that Holy Family Church has had in recent years with the two Father Michaels and now Father John Prince.

Catholic Education Week

Last week was Catholic Education Week, and we had a range of activities over the week to celebrate Catholic Education. On Monday morning, I was in the junior school looking at the prep-2 students' artwork depicting parables. There was a competition where all the staff sent pictures of themselves from when they were associated with a religious celebration at primary school. The children had to pair the photos from decades past with current photos of the school staff. I was surprised at how challenging the children found with pairing the old and new images. Thank You to Pauline Moran for organising the Catholic Education Week activities.

School Camp

Preparation for senior camp at the start of next term is going well. We need to get all the forms back, preferably by the end of this week. Also, don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions about camp or your child has any special requirements that we need to know about. We will only have a day at the start of term 2 to sort out any loose ends, so we need to be organised this term.

Harmony Day

Monday of this week was Harmony Day; this year, we will celebrate Harmony During the last week of this term. It will follow a similar pattern to what we just did for Catholic Education Week, with a daily celebration.

Gala Day

On Friday the 1st of April, the children in grades 3 - 6 will participate in a Sports Gala Day. This will be the first time in a long time that our Holy family children will be involved in a sports day with other schools. This is a big step in getting back to operating how we used to before covid and represents another step towards normality.

Easter Raffle                                                                                                                                               The Easter raffle prizes will be displayed from Friday in the school office. Also, all the children will bring home a book of raffle tickets on Thursday. The tickets are $1, so each book will cost $10. There will be plenty of chocolate Easter bunnies and eggs in each of the three prizes.

Last week of Term 1                                                                                                                                 On the last week of this term, I will be taking extended service leave. I will be going to New Zealand to catch up with family and friends. It has been nearly a year since my wife and myself have been over there so we are looking forward to the trip. I will be back in Australia before the start of term 2. As the Religious Education Leader, Pauline Moran will be looking after the school while I am away.

I hope everyone has a good holiday and an enjoyable Easter. I look forward to seeing all our wonderful children at the start of term 2.
