Covid Update - 4/03/2022

Current Covid restrictions.

Face masks - Are still required to be worn by Years 3 to 6 students inside buildings. They are however not required to be worn in the playground. Due to our grade 2/3 grade structure we will continue to encourage our grade 2 students to wear masks when inside.

Staff, parents and visitors - The wearing of a mask in the ground is optional. Masks do need to be worn if entering the building.

Proof of Vaccination - Parents or visitors who expect to be in the building for more than an hour, will need to provide proof of vaccination.

RAT's - Will continue to be made available to families for the remainder of the term.

Assemblies - Will return as of Monday 7/03/2022 for children only. Assemblies will be held outdoors in the quadrangle - weather permitting.

Gatherings - At this stage gatherings will not take place until advice from DET changes.

Again, I would like to thank the families who have informed the school of any positive contacts in their household.

School Council Elections - 2022

At the close of the ballot we had three candidates for the three two year positions and also one candidate who volunteered to fill the casual one year parent vacancy.

Our new parent members of school council are:

Scott Glover, Craig Peebles, Celia Barberis and Mel McGrath.

Again thank you for volunteering to join our current members for 2022.

REMINDER Camp - full payment by Monday 21/03/2022

This is a reminder to those families who child is attending the 4/5/6 Camp, 2022.

We would appreciate that full payment has been made by Monday 21/03/2022. If families are needing support, please contact the office via email or phone to discuss your concern with the principal.

Late arrival to school and early leaving

Our SENTRAL sign in kiosk is functioning as expected. If your child is late to school - 10 minutes or more, they need to go to the office and sign in. They will receive a print out which they take to their teacher.

For students who maybe early leavers we ask parents to pre-arrange this with our admin staff before pick-up, earlier the better. This makes the location of the students easier to manage for admin staff.

We would appreciate your cooperation and support with request.

We are seeking expressions of interest for  ‘Community Liaison’ volunteers to support the school and community to facilitate communication.

This will entail communicating specific questions and details between families and the school.

We are looking for three people from our school community to support us. This will be one for each of our cohorts (F/1, 2/3, 4/6).

If you are interested in knowing more about these positions and what they entail, please contact the school by email:

newlands.ps@education.vic.gov.au ATT: Luke – Community Liaison EOI

We are excited to finally invite our families into our classrooms on Wednesday 16th of March between 2:30pm – 3:30pm.

Each cohort will showcase our ‘Builders’ program, demonstrating how we build our students mathematical knowledge and understanding.

At the end of the school day, between 3:35-4:00, each cohort will run a short presentation explaining the processes, instructional models and expectations of the classroom. There will also be an opportunity for families to ask questions that they may have about our program.

Afterwards, our curriculum leadership team will be providing an opportunity for parents to learn about our refined literacy model and the ways to support students at home. This will provide clarity for our families around how we are teaching reading at Newlands Primary School.

Students are allowed to utilise the playgrounds during this time, but please note staff will not be on duty in these areas after 3:45.
