Primary Family Conferences

Our Family Conferences and PP meetings are being held this week. If you have any concerns about your child’s progress this is a great chance to discuss it with class teachers and hear about their learning. If you weren’t able to make one of these times and would still like to speak to your child’s teacher, please contact the school to set up an alternative meeting or phone call.

RED Program

Read Every Day (RED) is off to a great start. Students have joined in enthusiastically, starting off by wearing red last Monday and using their log cards to show how much reading they are doing. Reading expands the mind in many ways and every little bit contributes to our children becoming better readers and being more confident with their classwork.

Congratulations to the following students whose names were drawn to win a Scholastic book voucher: Ruby Selig, Pippa Butcher, Rebecca Bryant, Ryan Hill, Alliera Relf, Chelsea Gane, Liam Guest, Ebony Hiscock, Alice Hoscher, Flynn Simpson, Henry Mill, Sophie Neppl, Georgia Devlin, Jaxon Taber, Jock Craddock, Glen Walford and Joseph Schwarze.

Harmony Day

Harmony Day has been celebrated today in K-6. Thank you to all our families for supporting this and dressing the children in orange. Students participated in a variety of activities -  reading stories from our Indigenous heritage, listening to Dr Thanh talk about his life as a refugee and hearing about the culture and diversity of Danthonia from Noran Voll. Our Secondary Food Tech students made fried rice for all the children to have and teachers did a variety of activities in the classroom with the children. Thanks to Mrs Adams for organising a special Harmony Day lunch menu for the students. We are very lucky that we have such a variety of cultures in our Inverell community.

Living Well, Learning Well

At Holy Trinity School our “Living Well, Learning Well” document promotes and encourages our three Rules for Living: ‘I am Safe’, ‘I am Valued, Respected and Cared for’ and ‘I am a Learner’. We are explicitly teaching all children how to regulate their emotions and behaviours in our school, including in the classroom and on the playground. If your child has unsafe or unproductive behaviour at school, they will complete a reflection sheet, discuss this with a teacher or the Assistant Principal and have time to reflect on their behaviour. Your child will be asked to think of an alternative way they could have behaved and how they can fix the problem. This reflection sheet will then be sent home to strengthen communication between home and school. We ask that you read through the reflection sheet with your child to help them explain what happened and how they can make a better choice next time. We would then like parents to sign this reflection sheet and ask your child to return it to their teacher to acknowledge that you have had a brief conversation with your child about the incident. Through this process, we are supporting your child to reflect on their behaviour at school with a teacher and at home with an adult.

Class Dojo and Classroom Communication

At Holy Trinity we see communication to parents as an important aspect of school life so as everyone can work together. All parents have access to Compass and this is the major way for the school to send updates, notes, newsletters and information. Some of the classes from Kindergarten to Year 6 also use Class Dojo. This is a classroom communication app used to share reports between parents and teachers. Teachers can track student behaviour and upload photos or videos. If your child’s classroom teacher is using this app, it would be great if you could connect to the app. You are also able to receive notifications when they come through or you can turn this off. If you have problems connecting to your class account, please don’t hesitate to ask your child’s teacher. Other classroom teachers have also set up email accounts so as they can make regular contact and send photos. Through both of these services you are able to let classroom teachers know of any concerns you or your child is having as well. All information is kept private.

Uniform and items from home

Students should be in full summer uniform or full sports uniform on Fridays. Bands on wrists are not permitted (unless for medical reasons) and long hair past shoulder length should be tied back at all times. Shoes should be black leather or vinyl for summer uniform and appropriate footwear for active movement on sports days. Students should not be wearing nail polish to school. If your child can’t be in uniform for any reasons, please send in a note to your child’s class teacher. Children have been asked not to bring any items from home. There are balls etc that they can use in the playground. All toys should be kept safe at home for after school use.

Children Travelling Home from School

Some of the children of an afternoon are forgetting their travel plans home. To aid teachers and the office staff, could you please go through plans each morning with your child. If it does change from day-to-day a note to the classroom teacher or office would be of a great assistance.

Hygiene at School

Please remind your children of the importance of washing their hands and using the hand sanitiser provided in all classrooms when coming to school. It is also important that if they are sick to stay at home and rest until they are well enough to come back to school.
