Literacy Update

Our Link to the Real World
In Level 5 & 6, we have been aiming to make writing more purposeful by linking it to other subjects in the curriculum, as well as experimenting with different formats of writing. In addition to this, we are creating a variety of methods to present the children's writing that keeps the process fresh and exciting in the classroom.
Our most recent writing project, information reports, involved students choosing and researching a particular global issue. An example of some of these topics include deforestation, recycling, finite resources diminishing, ocean damage or global warming in general. This provided a necessary shock factor to some of the students who may not have realised the current condition of the planet or the processes in place that we take for granted everyday. Students have been discovering simple ways to remedy, or at least reduce some of these environmental impacts that are negatively affecting our planet.
This informative writing piece has been closely linked to our current inquiry project, where many students are choosing to take their learning further and present solutions to these identified environmental problems. Many students are wanting to share their knowledge with others by choosing different ways to educate the community on easy, yet effective and sustainable ways that they can help.
