Things to know

RIDE2SCHOOL DAY FRIDAY 22ND MARCH

In the newspaper this weekend : ‘More than half of primary-aged children are driven to and from school – 60% of primary school children – even those who live within 750m of school don’t walk or cycle there’.

Though sometimes this is the most convenient, this Friday 22nd March we want you to consider the physical and health benefits of riding or scooting to school with National ride2school day. You could ride to school together as a family or with friends. Please consider the safety precautions of riding to school and don’t forget to wear a helmet.  It’s fun and can create healthy habits for life, whilst also reducing traffic chaos and contribute to students' 60 minutes of recommended exercise per day.

We encourage students to dress up their ride e.g. with art decorations or a theme they like. Students who dress up their ride will receive a raffle ticket and go into a prize draw.

Grade 3-6 students will start the day with a presentation from guest speaker Carol Cook (Paralympic gold medal cyclist).

All students at recess will be greeted by visitors from St.Kilda cycling club, who will be providing the opportunity for students to have a go on some junior track bikes. Information will also be distributed about how students can be involved in more cycling.

We will follow up this active travel initiative with walk to school challenge month in October.
