For production this year, our school worked with four of the primary schools in our area; Wheelers Hill Primary School, Mulgrave Primary School, Brandon Park Primary School and Waverly Meadows Primary School, so that the primary school students would have a chance to participate and perform in the Wizard of Oz.

This worked well, with a group of Wheelers Hill Secondary students travelling to schools every Wednesday afternoon for a term and a half to teach choreography and scenes for Munchkinland to the primary school students.

As the Wicked Witch, I was very proud to see the hard work they put in, going from happy and giggling to cowering and being terrified of me. I’m also sure that after several lessons and lots of drilling, they finally know how to do the perfect box step. Without the primary school’s cooperation and continuous help, the Munchkin land scene definitely wouldn’t have been quite as good!

The primary schools worked very hard on the songs and dances we had given them, and helped us make the Wizard of Oz even more special. This production has strengthened the relationship between these schools and our own, and has created more opportunities for our wider community.
