Delahey Campus Principal Message

Hello Everyone,

Over the last two weeks all our VCE students completed mid-year exams; while they are not mandated by VCAA, our philosophy is that the more practice students have at exams the better they will perform at the end of Year 12.  Last year’s students’ successful results would attest to that.

Ms Aleardi ran GAT training sessions for all students doing a Year 12 subject, leading into the real GAT which was on June 12.

Semester 2 for VCE begins today, June 17 and we will be entering SAC season for Units 2 and 4 at the start of Term 3; kicking off with the English oral SAC.  The number of school weeks left for year 12s before their first exam can be counted on two hands!!

Our Senior VCAL students are finalizing their projects with the first one to be completed being the Volunteer High Tea this week.  A new project this year is a fund raising for the new Joan Kirner wing at Sunshine Hospital. Those students are planning a Trivia Night as part of their activities which will be run early Term 3.

Selected VCAL students have started the annual Women in Leadership program run by our partners ABCN.  The young women mix with students from other schools and discuss leadership behaviours and then discuss their approach with mentors from the business world.

There has been very high demand for course re-counselling for Year 11 students this year, necessitating the generation of some new classes which is a very difficult thing for a school to do mid- year.  The meeting with Mentor Teachers last week went very well as an opportunity to discuss issues and successes in a relaxed setting.  The Year 12 students visited RMIT last Tuesday and got some insight into tertiary education and tips on entry processes and requirements.

Year 11 VCE students also experienced sessions about respectful relationships last week which were very stimulating and inspiring.

Staff and students hosted the Year 10 Careers Day at Delahey on June 12, in the afternoon following the GAT.  We again included Year 11 and 12 students in the information sharing to give the Year 10s their perspective on various courses and subjects.  This did not disappoint, again proving to be one of the most successful elements of the day in the view of the Year 10 students.  Many thanks and credit to the students who gave their time to this important event.

The Wellbeing Team is instigating a Wellbeing survey for all students which will be carried out at the start of next term.  All Year 11 students will be visiting the Health Centre where the Doctors in Schools program is located in the next fortnight during Mentor Group, so they are familiar with it and its purpose.

Until next time,

Ms Pip Griffiths and Ms Amanda Mullins
