College Principal Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

I would like to start by congratulating Lance Petherick who has been appointed as the new Acting Campus Principal at the Sydenham Campus to replace Phil Coloca who has been seconded to a position in the Region. Lance previously had a Leading Teacher role as Campus Leader. The subsequent vacancy for Year 9/10 Campus Leader has been filled by Karen Martin who has been a long-term Team Leader at Sydenham. Well done to Karen.

We are at the end of Semester one and have been through a busy period focused on assessment. Year 9-12 students have all sat exams over the past few weeks. This can be a stressful time for students and parents – a bit of student stress is ok as we want students to do their best and take the exams seriously, but please monitor your child. A reminder that our wellbeing team is available for support.

Delahey Campus: Judy Scarfe

Sydenham Campus: Kellie Jasper and Esmerelda Lambe

Student reports will be available at the end of the term and will be available through COMPASS portal. Remember if you have any concerns or questions you can contact your child’s Team Leader at any time.

If you have misplaced your COMPASS login details please call the General Office.

I would also like to congratulate the staff across both junior campuses who manage NAPLAN testing. This year we were online and - despite negative media reports from other schools - it proceeded without any serious hitches.

Capital Works Funding 2019

Last year, at about this time I reported that we received $3.5 million for refurbishment of facilities. This money has been targeted to replace the roofs on the Administration and Art blocks at the Delahey Campus. The roofs at the Delahey Campus were poorly designed and there have been significant issues with leaks over the past 15 years and many thousands of dollars spent trying to fix the problem and repair the damage. We are hopeful that this work will start in December so that it will cause minimum disruption to our school program.

Following this year’s State budget we were advised that we would receive an additional $6.5 million to complete replacement of the other Delahey roofs. It should be noted that the school does not actually receive this money in our hands to spend however we want. The spending is managed by the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA).
