School Concert

The School Concert is booked for Friday, 24 August 2018 at the Frankston Arts Centre.  The concert theme for 2018 is titled "Colour our World".  After such a successful Colour Run at the end of 2017, we feel a splash of creative colour is what we would like to celebrate in 2018.  Already the staff are planning some clever interpretations of what the classroom items could include; from a pure colour idea to wild and different concepts.  Please see your classroom teacher to offer support and ideas.

ANZAC Day Service

Attending the Cranbourne ANZAC Day march and service was a heartening experience to see the increasing number of people, especially our younger generations.  With particular reference, I am incredibly proud of representatives of our student leaders; School captains Layne M. and Alyx T. and our Student Liaison leader Zara O.  It was an additional delight seeing a number of CSPS students pay their respects and join in with the CSPS contingency.  May we always remember those gallant men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to their country. Lest we forget.

MAPPEN

As part of our efforts to ensure that your child gets the best possible education, CSPS teaches Guided Inquiry units to students through the implementation of MAPPEN (getmappen.com). MAPPEN is a world class curriculum designed by Australian educators for Australian schools and has a strong focus on building your child’s capacity to develop questions and to plan and conduct their own inquiry.

The MAPPEN curriculum represents approximately three hours of teaching time each week. Literacy , numeracy and technology skills are integrated into the learning whilst content is covered from various areas of the curriculum including, History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business, Science, Critical and Creative Thinking, Ethical Understanding, Personal, Social and Intercultural  Capabilities.

Over a two year period, your child will investigate eight different concepts, focusing on one Guided Inquiry unit a term. This term the MAPPEN concept being investigated is ‘Sustainability’. Each year level will be guided to inquire into this concept with age appropriate content and skills

At the Foundations level students will explore practical ways in which to sustain their immediate environment. They explore sustainability through an historical lens by identifying life during their grandparent’s days and comparing these historical events to their own experiences.

At Years 1 & 2, immersion into the world as a beautiful and precious place is a major focus for this unit. Students are encouraged in a variety of ways to make a different to their local environment and encourage others to do the same.

Year 3 & 4 students will build a respect and wonder of the beauty of nature. Conducting experiments opens students’ eyes to the world of science and ways in which science can help us to better understand the physical nature of things.

Year 5 & 6 students will discover how and why natural disasters occur. They develop an understanding of the structure of the Earth and consider the work of scientific researcher when they visit an environmentally sensitive local area.

Rationale Please peruse the MAPPEN display board in the school foyer for further details of what your child will be exploring through their Guided Inquiry unit this term.  Parents are encouraged to use MAPPEN units as topics for shared conversations with their children, precipitating meaningful questions and discussions about their world.

If you'd like to find out more about MAPPEN you can visit getmappen.com or talk to your classroom teacher.

i sea i care

The i sea i care ambassadors, Tayla, Destiny and Angel (unfortunately Frazer was unable to attend), had a marvellous day, experiencing close contact with marine life in Port Phillip Bay.  Supervised by Ms Youl, they boarded the Moonraker boat at Sorrento with ambassadors from other schools. On calm waters with blue skies they ventured out to meet up with some seals at the South Channel Marker.

The girls (including Ms Youl) swam with the seals. With curiosity the seals would roll into the water and with their big, brown, long-lashed eyes would venture closer to take a look at the noisy, little humans splashing all around them.

At a location closer to the Portsea shoreline, the girls whilst snorkelling spotted some sea dragoons, some nearly 30 cm in length. Given these amazing creatures are considered a threatened species, this was a particularly special experience.  On the way back to the Sorrento pier, the boat crew spotted a pod of dolphins and although it was too late to swim, it was a joy for all to be able to observe the beautiful creatures as they performed twists and turns in the air and played around the boat.  What a thrilling day of marine life experience; a day to remember!

Casey Leadership

On the 22nd of March 2018, as student leaders we (Alyx Trevaskis, Layne Marshall, Zara Ogier and Tom Murphy) attended  the City of Casey council event with Ms Joannidis and Kylie Murphy. The event was held at Bunjil Place in Fountain Gate. As we entered the room we all sat in our seats and there where many great schools and guest speakers. There were singers, dancers and many successful event stories. Our personal favourite was Sam Web  and he gave everyone the message to reach out for help when you need it. We are very grateful to be able to attend this wonderful experience. Thank you so much to the City of Casey for inviting us to this youth services event and thank you to our teachers and parents for supporting us.
