There is no doubt that the past number of weeks have been a very challenging time for our students, and indeed probably most of our KWS parents! However, as we enjoy the return of our students and staff to campus, and the energy and enthusiasm they bring, we want to focus on the positive. There is so much to be thankful for, and that is why we have spent the first few weeks of this term exploring gratitude. As this article attests, a heightened sense of community, time for things that really matter, a new found resilience, and perhaps an appreciation for school amongst more of our students than usual, are just a few to mention. So as we begin to return to our usual routines, I ask that you talk with your children to encourage them, and you as a family, to reflect and make a collective commitment about what new found habits, interests, lifestyle choices, and perspectives you’d like to keep and develop post our period of isolation.
In addition to focusing on gratitude, a major focus for both our Junior and Senior School centres on redeveloping connections. Having been isolated, we recognise, as this article highlights, the need to bring some joy, laughter, and excitement into the lives of our students.
In the Junior School we have rewritten the Social and Emotional Learning Program for this Semester to focus on the ‘5 ways to Wellbeing’. Each week the students will explore and practice practical applications they can use in their lives to be a well-being. Please do continue these conversations at home and discuss how you can integrate some of these 5-ways into your weekly routines.
In the Senior School, we have begun a ‘Lip Sync Battle’. This is occurring two-fold; students can submit individual entries, and we have also begun a group competition amongst the houses to generate some excitement for our House Spectacular scheduled (digitally) for Week 9. Some of our staff got things going with their rendition of ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’ - you can view it at the link below. We've had some other fantastic submissions that we will share with you in the next edition of the newsletter.
