Student Voice

by Elliott Tregonning, (Student Voice Coordinator)

For the duration of our time in isolation, the Student Leaders have been highly productive and present as an authentic voice for Staughton College. You have probably seen Kennedy Sua’s address as one of our College Captains, the College and Vice Captains Anzac Day address or even the great House Captain Challenge, set by Thon Chipuowuop and taken up by many staff, students and parents in our Staughton Family.

There has also been a lot of work behind the scenes happening involving the Communication leaders, the YEP (Youth Empowerment Process) leaders, and our Year 10 Leaders, amongst others. There are also many upcoming events for the Cultural Ambassadors and we will have Junior and Senior Student Leaders running the upcoming Sub-School assemblies.

Some of you might have been impressed by the confidence and initiative these students have demonstrated, but as funny as it may sound, we are not.  This kind of progressive and inspiring behaviour is completely normal for our Student Leaders and what we have come to expect from these students when given the opportunity. Our Student Leader continue to rise to any occasion and are inspiring in the dedication to the school community.

We do recognise however, that none of this just happens, and many of the staff involved in Student leadership have strived to make sure we keep our connection with our leaders whether we are at school or not. Particularly Haley Clancy, as Public Speaking and Debating Coordinator, and David Fairclough, as Communications Coordinator, have both put in great effort to ensure Student Leadership remains an integral part of life at Staughton College. For many of our staff, working with our Student Leaders is one of the most satisfying and rewarding parts of our work.

Keep an eye out for all of the events and extra-curricular activities we have coming up and check in our newsletter, website and social media for updates. Thank you to the Student Leaders for making the College somewhere we can all be proud to belong to. We are really looking forward to returning to the College, not just to resume our learning, but also to celebrate with the Student Leaders.

Collectively, they have made what could have been a deflating time for all, into an experience that we can take away some new found skills and presence and continue to learn and grow from.
