FIRE carrier Commissioning 11th May 2023

FIRE carrier commissioning

This week the FIRE carriers gathered at St Augustine's Primary School for our official commissioning ceremony with other schools from the Bunurong Partnership.

Bunurong Land Council members welcomed us to the country through a smoking ceremony and reminded us of the sacredness of the land we work and play on.

Our students then completed many activities, including creating an indigenous bouquet (which some lucky mums may receive as a Mother's Day gift), clay pots that will form a collaborative cluster art piece and played MOB style hopscotch.  Two students from each school worked with Shanai Kellet, a local aboriginal artist, to create a school prayer mat.  These banners will be used to decorate the altar at our upcoming Reconciliation Week Mass (see flyer).  All are welcome!

Staff who attended the ceremony would like to commend and congratulate each and every FIRE carrier.  Each student displayed maturity and commitment to representing our school and to the sacredness of the ceremony.  These students were polite, respectful and cheerful throughout the day.  Thank you for the way you represented yourselves, your school and FIRE carriers everywhere.  We are extremely proud.
