Prep Update

Welcome to Term 2!

Upcoming learning

During the next fortnight, Prep students are undertaking learning in the following areas:

Reading

Week 2 & 3- The start of our Fairytales unit!

We started our unit off with a fairytale incursion including The Little Red Hen, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Jack and the Beanstalk.

We are sequencing events in fairytales from the beginning, middle and the end.

We will engage in daily Phonics lessons, focusing on the letter sounds /n/, /o/, /d/ and /g/ following the Little Learners Love Literacy sequence.

We will be focusing on 2 sounds each week.

Writing

Week 2 & 3: We will learn the correct letter formation of our focus letters.

We will be writing about fairytales using our letter sound knowledge, attempting to sound out and record our thinking.

Maths

Week 2: We will be focusing on ordering events and ordering the days of the week.

Week 3: We will be focusing on positional language.

Inquiry

Week 2: We are learning about maintaining our personal hygiene and being sun smart.

Week 3: We are learning about healthy eating.

Social and Emotional

Week 2: We are re-visiting the Zones of Regulation to refresh our knowledge from Term 1.

Week 3: We are focusing on the size of the problem and tattling, using the story 'Tittle Tattle Goose.'

Preps had SO much fun at our Fairytale incursion. Thank you for your support with this. This was a wonderful way to begin our new unit.
Blue reader bags and phonics books:
Phonics books have now been updated with a 'Sound out and Read section.' This is in addition to the letter sounds and matching characters that we learn at school. Please bring these along every WEDNESDAY.
Heart words will be added this week. These are words that children need to 'learn by heart' as they cannot decode them yet. Later in the program many Heart words will become decodable as children learn more of the alphabetic code.
