We have some very exciting programs and sustainable competitions coming up at Hillsmeade and we would like to encourage all of our students and families to get involved.
The students were eagerly awaiting the measuring of their Easter egg and bunny foil balls. The results were SO close with only 1 centimetre between 1st and equal 2nd placings.
Aluminium foil is recyclable, but only if it is clean and rolled into a ball the size of a tennis ball. Otherwise the smaller particles of foil are lost in the recycling process. Which is why we started the competition at Hillsmeade to promote the recycling of aluminium foil.
Well done to 4E for winning the competition with a 58.5cm ball, 1D and 2B in equal 2nd with 57.5cm and 3C with 57cm. Special mentions to 5E, 4B, 4C and 6C for close results also. The real winner is the planet, by collecting and recycling the aluminium foil into a ball from our Easter eggs and bunny's we estimate we have diverted nearly 2 kilograms of foil from ending up in landfill.
Remember you can create your own aluminium foil ball at home to continue recycling any foil you use, as long as it is free from food and relatively clean it can be recycled in your curb side council recycling bin.
Bread bag and plastic tag recycling has begun. You can drop your empty bread bags or plastic bread tags in the collection boxes in the front office or give to your child to bring in to the collection box in the school. Bread bags can be any brand, as long as they are clean of any bread/crumbs.
The more bread bags we collect the more points we can earn to be used for sports equipment at our school.
