Upcoming Learning:

During the next fortnight, students will be undertaking learning in the following areas:

Subject	Learning Focus
Reading	To revise the features of a persuasive introduction.
Writing	To revise the features of a persuasive argument.
Maths	To solve subtraction problems.
Inquiry (Government)	To develop my knowledge of local governments. To identify Australia’s three levels of government.
Social & Emotional Learning	To identify and understand personal strengths.
Spelling	To understand how to read and spell words pertaining to the ‘fszl’ rule. (double f,s,z or l after a 1 letter vowel)

News and Reminders:

Welcome back to Term 2, we have been enjoying hearing about the relaxing and adventurous events of the school holidays for our students and are very pleased to see them settling so quickly back into a routine at school.

Reminder about reading, this is an expectation for all students. We have seen a decline in home reading being logged in diaries and we want to encourage students to keep up these routines at home. Reading is an important way of developing language skills, enhancing creativity and exposing students to new words and ways to use language. Please remind your child/children to write down the book they are reading in their diaries.
Production news: Students in Grade 4 will be performing in the production on Wednesday the 21st of June, students will need to wear a long sleeved black t-shirt and black pants. We ask parents/ guardians to begin getting these items ready as we have a busy term ahead.
Spelling has begun for the term and students will be receiving weekly spelling words, the focus is on the rule and not the list of words being sent home. The words the students are tested on each week will be different to those learnt at home to consolidate the learning of the spelling rule and to enable students to use the rule across various different words. We encourage you to work with your child to read and spell the list being sent home and to discuss the spelling rule with your child.

Celebration of Learning:

Students across our cohort have settled back into learning routines very well. We have had a busy first few weeks with mathematics games, reading group work, the launch of our new spelling lessons and some very persuasive writing.

The school competition for Easter egg foil recycling also finished up, with 4E the very proud winners of the competition. 4E's Easter egg foil ball measured 58.5 centimetres!
