5 KEY QUESTIONS
Here at OHR, we are very fortunate to be part of The Learning Collaborative led by Dr Lynn Sharrat. This professional development program informs our teaching and learning pedagogy. Our teachers are highly skilled in using data to inform our planning and using high impact teaching strategies to ensure our students grow, learn and succeed in all areas of the curriculum.
One of these strategies that teachers use is the “5 Key Questions” which promotes reflective thinking and personal responsibility in our student’s learning.
Teachers will ask students to reflect on the following questions:
- What are you learning and why?
- How are you doing?
- How do you know?
- How can you improve?
- Where do you go for help?
This process involves the development of vocabulary and practising thinking skills related to their learning. When you visit our classrooms you will notice anchor charts around the room unpacking these questions.
Parents have found using similar questions with their children creates opportunities for informative conversations.
5 Questions parents can ask their children
- What did you learn today in …….?
- How did you do?
- What did you do if you didn’t understand?
- How can you improve on your learning?
- What are you most proud of?
We encourage you to use these questions with your child at home.
