SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

As Term One draws to a close, I want to thank our staff, students and parents for their efforts this term. Ten weeks ago we arrived back at school to start our 2023 school year, finding our way around our new Middle School Learning Hub for the first time as we completed our Term One Student 360s. Since then, our staff and students have worked incredibly hard, demonstrating innovating teaching and focused learning in class every day.

We’ve had several exciting extra-curricular opportunities for our students this term with camps, excursions and sport taking place on a regular basis. NAPLAN, previously completed in Term Two, was completed across Australia in Term One this year, making it a particularly busy start to the year. Well done to our Year 7 and Year 9 students for their outstanding efforts on these tests.

During Term One the second of our new buildings (the Community Hub including our new gym), the landscaping through the quadrangle, and the new entrance to the school have continued to take shape. These works have caused some inconvenience at times, and I thank our staff and students for their patience. I'm sure that everyone will agree that when the building works have finished, the new buildings have opened and the temporary fencing has come down, these wonderful new additions to our school will have been worth the short term pain.

Over the upcoming holidays we will also be having a new portable delivered to our school to accommodate our rapidly growing student numbers. This will be placed next to R1/R2 and will be available for classes from the start of next term, giving us more options for classes.

Broader society has faced a range of challenges in recent times, and KSC has not been immune to the effects of some of these. I want to thank our amazing staff, and incredible student leaders at every year level for their ongoing efforts this term to maintain the fantastic school culture that we have built over several years. I end this term full of pride and confidence in our community through our work to maintain Korumburra Secondary College as such a positive place to work and learn.

We also have a couple of important notes for our families to finish this term.

KSC has traditionally held Parent-Teacher Interviews in the last week of Term One. This year, we will be holding these in early Term Two. On Tuesday 9th May we will run our Term Two Student 360s from 9am until 2pm, and then we will run traditional Parent-Teacher Interviews from 2pm until 5pm. These are particularly for our VCE students and parents and may be done either remotely or in person. More details on these will be available next term. Parents are also reminded that they can contact their child’s teachers at any time for feedback or with specific questions.

GPA reports are now available on Compass. The whole school average GPA for Term One is an incredible 3.18, one of the highest averages we have recorded. This further reinforces the fantastic work we have seen from all students in classes so far this year.

The first day of Term Two is Monday 24th April and this will be a student free day. The following day, Tuesday 25th April, is the ANZAC Day Public Holiday. Classes will start for Term Two on Wednesday 26th April.

Term Two this year will also see the expansion of one of our signature programs - the “Activate” Program, with the introduction of 8A. “9A” has been in operation for over a year now and has been providing our Year 9 students with a modified learning environment to best meet the needs of some of our learners. From Term Two this year, our new “8A” class will provide the same opportunities to our Year 8 students. This will require some movement of classes for our current Year 8 students and details about all of this will be communicated to families prior to the start of next term.

Thanks again to everyone for your commitment and support this term. We wish everyone a very relaxing break and look forward to seeing everyone again next term.
