Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

The SAKGP has certainly got off to a great start! The pilot sessions in Term 1 were a huge success, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from the children. The children, teachers and volunteers harvested, cooked and ate a delicious meal together – orecchiette with both tomato & basil sauce, and pepita pesto – well done to the kids that tried something they might not ordinarily eat (and even ended up liking it!).

Volunteers

We want to give a massive thank you to all those that volunteered in Term 1 – without these helpers the program is unable to run. We will continue to need volunteers to run each session, and welcome all adults in our community to come along and work with the children for these sessions – parents, carers, grandparents, godparents, aunties, uncle (the list goes on!). The only requirement is a current ‘Working with Children’ check.

We have now set up an online roster and booking system using School Interviews https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/   Please jump in to book a session using the code : 5g4rh

As part of the program, we are required to conduct a thorough clean of the kitchen and equipment once per term, and will need helpers for this. We also need assistance to coordinate the program - if you’d like to be more heavily involved in the coordination please contact Stella (0409 571 828).

Donations

We are looking for donations to support the program. Please contact the school office if you are able to contribute in any way:

  • Gardening products – seeds, seedlings, kids gardening gloves, fertilizer, watering cans
  • Good quality kitchenware - kitchen scales, pots and pans, baking trays, kids knives, etc. Due to a lack of space, please contact Stella if you have anything else to donate. At this stage, we do not need any crockery or glasses.
  • Plastic re-useable tablecloths and aprons (kids and adults)
  • Cooking products – eg. a family donating eggs or fresh produce, or someone with contacts in a supermarket or food manufacturing.

We have had a number of requests from children for the recipes used at school. We have attached these and wonder how many of our families will be enjoying homemade pasta and sauce over the holidays!?

Thanks again for all the help and feedback received!
