NEWS & ADMINISTRATION

Mrs Caroline Galea

Dear Parents,

What a fun week this has been! This week, as a school, we celebrated Book Week. Although we were a week early, our children had a wonderful time. The dress up parade was fantastic and it was wonderful to see so many of you there.  Yesterday, as I was writing this, our children met Nicky Johnston, who has written many picture story books.

I would like to thank Gordana for organising the author visit and Maria Lontos, who has put in a lot of hard work to ensure that Book Week is memorable for your children. She certainly excels in Book Week, as she shares her talent as an MC, organising activities for Book Week, preparing displays and generally co-ordinating the week. On behalf of our Holy Name community, I would like to thank Maria for the passion and enthusiasm she displays for all things literacy.

Prep/1/2 Swimming Program

Last week, an Operoo form went out to all Prep/1/2 families. This information outlined the intensive swimming program that will occur everyday between Monday 5th and Friday 16th September (Week 9 and 10). The students will travel to and from Reservoir Leisure Centre by bus. On each of the days, we will be most appreciative for any help parents can provide (parents will require a current Working with Children check). If you are able to help out on any of the days, could you please get in touch with your child's classroom teacher.

3/4 Gymnastics Program

Last week, an Operoo form went out to all Grade 3/4 families. This information outlined the intensive gymnastics program that will occur every day between Monday 5th and Friday 9th September (Week 9). The students will participate in the gymnastics program in the school hall.

School Closure Day

Just reminding you all that on Monday August 29th, we have the second of our closure days.  Once again, Camp Australia will be running a whole day session.  Please ensure that you book in for this if needed.

Car Parking Issues

We are still having problems with the circular carpark.  Just a reminder to everyone that if you use the circular driveway near the church, you are not to leave your car unattended whilst you pick up your child.  This area needs to keep moving.

While we are speaking about parking, could I also please remind you that you need to observe the parking restrictions near school crossings.

School Advisory Committee

On Tuesday 23rd August, we have a School Advisory Committee Meeting. This group is made up of parents who are interested in acting in an advisory capacity to help with various aspects of school life.  This group meets approximately once a term at the school. If you are interested in joining this group, could you please send in the following nomination form.

Father's Day Raffle and Stall

This year we will be holding a Father's Day Raffle.  Tickets went home with your children today.

Along with the Raffle, we will be holding a Father's Day Stall on Wednesday 31st August, just as we do for Mother's Day.  Children will be able to bring money to school to purchase a gift for that special male in their lives.

To celebrate the wonderful roles that Fathers play in their child's life, we will be having a sausage sizzle from 3:45 to 5pm on Thursday 1st September for Dads and their children, keep the date free........

MACSIS Survey

Each year, a random group of families are asked to compete an online survey referred to as MACSIS.  The data collected from families, staff and students help paint a picture of Holy Name and the areas in our school that need to be worked on.  Next week, some families will be receiving an email with a pin number.  We are asking these families to please complete the online survey, which will run from August 29th through to September 16th.

Canteen

At present, Donna Pinto is on sick leave and our canteen is being operated by Adam McKay.   If you are a regular canteen volunteer, please just continue as usual.

Long Service Leave

Next week, Donna Monteleone is going on LSL for the remainder of this term. Donna will be replaced by Siobhan Kerr.  We wish Donna a relaxing break and welcome Siobhan to Holy Name.

Scholastic Book Club

Issue 6 is now out.  All orders need to be placed prior to 3:30pm on Friday 26th August.
