Careers update

It has been a big couple of weeks in the Careers Department with our inaugural ‘Future Insights Day’ running on the morning of Thursday 11 August.

Careers Future Insights Day

Our successful Careers Future Insights day began with an enlightening presentation from Tyson Day of ‘Arrive and Thrive’. Tyson gave an engaging talk on how students can be preparing for their future career path and gave insights to parents on how they can best support their children in this journey. We received very positive feedback on Tyson’s presentation from both students and parents who found it very helpful.

Students were then able to access information from tertiary representatives from Swinburne University, RMIT, Australian Catholic University, Deakin University, Monash University and Box Hill TAFE who had set up information booths in The Hood. There was a real buzz as students engaged in conversations about courses and entry requirements.

Forty speakers from a range of different careers then presented to students over two sessions. They gave great insights into what their career involves, what a day in their job looks like, training they undertook and some of the challenges they face in their chosen career. The students found this very informative and the speakers commented on the great questions they were asked at the end of their presentations.

The day proved to be a great way for students to discover more about the career paths they are interested in and in many cases confirmed the journey they wish to take on leaving school. We are very appreciative to the Shelfordians and other invited speakers who gave up their time to come and present to our students.
