Student Leadership 2023

The next stage in the Leadership process will see applicants for the Prefect roles of School Co-Captain, Student Voice Captain, Diversity and Inclusion Captain and House Captains, present their speeches at a Senior School Assembly this Thursday 25 August. Following the presentation of speeches, the preferential voting process will open for each of these positions. The interview stage for the remaining captain roles will be conducted over the coming week.

I congratulate all students who have put themselves forward for Leadership positions and wish them all the best for the remainder of the process, which will culminate with the announcement of the 2023 Student Leadership Team at the Senior School Assembly on 8 September.

Uniform

When we came out of lockdown last year, a decision was made to allow students to wear their Sport uniform to and from school on days when they had Sport or PE. This decision was made to eliminate the need for students to change into and out of the Sport uniform whilst at school. The proviso was that students wore the uniform properly, not mixing and matching pieces of uniform with non-uniform hoodies etc and that it was only worn on days where Sport or PE was scheduled. Unfortunately, some students are wearing the Sport uniform incorrectly or on days when they do not have Sport or PE.

Students have been reminded of the original conditions of the agreement and that if there is not a marked improvement by the end of this term, students will not be permitted to wear the Sport uniform to and from School.

The Menzies Foundation invites 15 to17 year old students to apply to be selected as one of 11, 2022 Menzies Emerging Leaders. Applicants are required to upload 2–30 second videos and a visual artefact related to this year’s theme ‘Power – What does it mean to you?’.

Successful applicants will each receive a $1000 bursary in support of their leadership journey. Further details regarding the application process which closes on 11 September, can be found here.

Child safe

Shelford Girls’ Grammar is committed to child safety and has zero tolerance for child abuse. Shelford Girls’ Grammar actively work to listen to and empower children, and has systems to protect children from abuse.

The new Child Safe Standards came into effect on 1 July 2022. There are now 11 standards which like the previous 7 standards are designed to prevent child abuse in organisations. All Shelford staff have been briefed about the new standards and have been provided with details about how Shelford is complying with them.
