Performing Arts update

While it’s been a slightly quieter time, things are ramping up. This week sees the last of our ensembles performing at the Victorian School Music Festival. Next week will be action-packed, with the Band and Strings Concert on Tuesday 30 August as well as the Senior School Play on Friday 2 September and Saturday 3 September.

Jazz ensemble – VSMF

Congratulations to Martin Mackerras and the Jazz Ensemble students for a fantastic performance at the Victorian School Music Festival. The Jazz Ensemble were awarded a Silver plaque, which is a testament to the hard work of the staff and students.

 

The Concert Band will be performing at the Victorian School Music Festival on Thursday 25 August. We wish the Concert Band all the best of luck for their performance.

 

Staff update

Many of our staff regularly perform outside of school. Shelford’s trumpet teacher Laura Hertaeg is no exception. Recently she performed with Boorandara Brass Band at the Victorian Band League State Championships which won the Open B Grade section. The performance also included a flugel horn solo by Ms Hertaeg.

Upcoming concerts

Band and Strings Concert – Tuesday 30 August

This will involve students in the Year 3/4 String Program, Year 5 and 7 Band Program, as well as the Senior and Junior String and Band groups

 

Little Women – Friday 2–Saturday 3 September

The Senior School Play will be held over Friday 2 September and Saturday 3 September. Purchase tickets here.

 

Junior School Piano recital Monday 5 September

This is open for all students in the Junior School piano students to perform at, whether learning at Shelford or outside of school. 

 

Strings Soloist Concert – Thursday 8 September

This is for selected string students. The soiree will be held in the Shelford Hall at 3.30pm.

 

Instrumentalists Solo Concert – Friday 9 September

This is for selected percussion/woodwind/brass/voice/guitar students. The soiree will be held in the Shelford Hall at 3.30pm.

 

Choral workshop – Saturday 10 September

For all students in Senior Choir, Sheltones and Inter and Senior Harmony there is a rehearsal day on Saturday 10 September. More information will come out on Operoo regarding the schedule of the day .

 

Choral Concert – Tuesday 13 September

For all choral groups, as well as students in the Year 3–6 Choir and Year 7 and 8 Choral Program, there will be a Choral Concert at Shelford on Tuesday 13 September. More information will be coming out via Operoo.

Instrumental lunchtime soiree’s

We will be running a series of informal lunchtime concerts over this term. See below the dates each teacher will be running their soiree. Please note all soiree’s will be running at lunchtime:

  • Tuesday 23 August – Ms Taylor, Percussion recital 
  • Tuesday 30 August – Ms Hertaeg and Ms Hatton, Brass recital
  • Wednesday 31 August – Ms Dixon-Lawrence, Violin/Viola recital
  • Thursday 1 September – Ms Dixon-Lawrence, 2nd Violin/Viola recital
  • Monday 5 September – Ms Yang, Oboe recital
  • Tuesday 6 September – Ms Dennis, Cello recital
  • Wednesday 7 September –Mr Mackerras, Woodwind recital
  • Thursday 8 September – Ms Sibly, Violin/Viola recital
  • Tuesday 13 September – Dr Hogan, Double Bass recital
  • Wednesday 14 September – Ms Young, Singing recital
  • Thursday 15 September – Ms Swart, Violin/Viola recital
