Term 3 Holiday Break

Another action packed term at Blackburn High School comes to an end. Thank you to all Melba House students, families and staff for their contributions and engagement within the house system across the term.

It has been great to see so many Melba House students participating in a range of extra-curricular events including House Fundraisers, Duke of Edinburgh Camp, James Morrison Concert, Inter-School Sport, Recharge Days, Peter Pan Production, and Learning Area excursions.

Our Year 12 Melba House cohort only has a couple of weeks remaining at Blackburn High School. We encourage them to commence their exam preparation over the break and attend the scheduled practice exams as this is excellent practice for what is to come during the formal examination period.

Best wishes for the term 3 holiday period, we look forward to catching up with everyone following a well deserved break on Monday the 3rd of October.

The Melba House Fundraiser was held on Friday the 26th of August. Planned, prepared and lead by the Melba House Student Leadership team, a fantastic whole-school event was conducted.

With an optional dress up theme of pyjamas or band tee-shirts, there was a sea of comfortable clothing moving about the school.

During lunchtime, students had to opportunity to participate in carnival style games and activities including chocolate toss, cornhole, just dance, and karaoke.

A BBQ was also prepared with all sausages and drinks selling out!

Over $2,500 was raised for the Eastern Emergency Relief Network! This is a fantastic effort by the Blackburn High School community and will directly contribute to the Eastern Emergency Relief Network who support over 150 partner agencies to provide the most vulnerable in our community with household items and food. This makes a massive difference to the quality of life for themselves and their families.

In addition to this, a non-perishable food drive was conducted by the Melba House Student Leadership team to further enhance the fundraising efforts. Over 1,000 food items were donated by students and staff from all houses. These food items will be utilized to prepare food hampers for distribution at Christmas time. Thank you again to all who contributed, this is a fantastic example of our community demonstrating the school value of citizenship.

David Irwin Bellette from the Eastern Emergency Relief Network attended the Melba House Assembly on Tuesday the 13th of September to present a certificate of appreciation to Blackburn High School Community. David spoke of the great appreciation felt by the Eastern Emergency Relief Network and shared with the students the direct impact of their financial and food donations.
