Freeman

House Leader

We have made it to the end of a busy term and the holidays are here. It was a jam-packed ten weeks with plenty of activities and I would like to acknowledge the level of participation from our Freeman students in these opportunities. I would like to recognise the work of our House Captain, Dylan Hosken and the House Captains for their development of the inter-house competition which runs during the Fun Friday slot of the Mentor program. Freeman have been competing against the Pasquali-led Dunlop House and the Melba juggernaut led by Mr. Ferres. The students have enjoyed the range of activities on offer with Pictionary, Kahoot, relays and Tunnel-ball and hope that the Freeman House can take out the championship.

I would like to welcome Maya Mulhall to the Freeman family. Ms. Mulhall has taken over from Ms. Mikula and has provided another English teacher to the Freeman ranks.

We are nearing the end of class time for our Year 12’s and hope they are getting prepared for their upcoming exams. The Freeman House are looking forward to celebrating with our Year 12’s and recognising their contributions to the culture of the house.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge the hard work of the Freeman students, families, and staff during Term 3. We appreciate your support in ensuring there is a strong team around the student. I would like to wish everyone a safe and restful holiday break as we prepare to launch into Term 4.

Freeman Achievement

On Monday we came together for the House Assembly to acknowledge the work of our students in extra curricular activities. Congratulations to Kynan, Oscar, Levi and Liam for their Pursuit of Excellence in their chosen sports. We were fortunate enough to have some excellent submissions to design the cover of the Blackburn High Yearbook. Congratulations to Chloe, Lola and Linnea for the work they put in to create some fantastic designs.

Term 3 Mentor Group Highlights

We asked a range of students and staff about their Term 3 highlights in the Freeman Mentor Groups and had some great responses:

“Watching the kids jump, hop and run in the inter-house competition against Dunlop”.

                              Ms. Helm F1 Mentor Teacher

“F10 kids had great fun making their own paper airplanes and flew them in the front oval”.

                            Ms. Hang F10 Mentor Teacher

“Level of student engagement during the Intra-House and Inter-house competitions”.

                                      Mr. Tobin, House Leader

“The best thing about Mentor Group is celebrating the student’s birthdays and making them feel special”.

                                Ms. Roach F5 Mentor Teacher

“Crushing those Dunlop peasants at the relay race”.

                           Mr. Zaccaria F12 Mentor Teacher

“The inter-house mentor group competition has been a highlight for F3. Friendly competition (where we win of course) is always a hit. A special mention goes to the Pictionary guessing skills of Rebecca Yaacoub and the hop, skip, jump, champion Liam McLennan!”                       Ms. Papadopoulos F3 Mentor Teacher
