The Sciences
Year 11 Psychology
Students in Year 11 Psychology have been studying perception and how the brain is influenced by visual cues. They completed an experiment determining whether the intensity of the colour of soft drink influenced their perception of the intensity of the flavour. It is hypothesised that drinks with deeper colours will taste stronger. In particular, pink foods or drinks are perceived to be sweeter. The hypothesis was supported.
Even after debriefing, some students still didn't believe that they were all the same drink!
Year 10 Chemistry
Students have been learning how to complete titrations. This developed their knowledge and understanding of acid-base neutralisation reactions. This practical also demonstrated the importance of getting strong, accurate results by using the exact amount of acid to change the coloured indicator in the solution from pink to clear.
Year 9
Mr Robertson’s Year 9H Science class worked on electromagnetism. Pictured below are Cooper Fitzpatrick & Will Ainsworth. Students were asked to get as many paper clips as possible to attach to the electromagnet!
