Year 11 & 12 Food
Hospitality
On Wednesday 24th August Mitchell, Grace, Sitara, Mitchal and Naomi undertook their first ever ‘service’ for their studies in kitchen operations. Students work cooperatively to develop a time plan, then prepare, cook and serve a hot roast chicken and vegetables at lunchtime. The purpose of the task was to simulate a real life experience in a commercial kitchen with real customers. Despite the nerves at the start of the day, all students enjoyed the task and can’t wait for the next pop up restaurant! Thank you to staff who gave up their lunch time to support our students learning and provide feedback.
Year 11
Students in Year 11 have been learning about the design process used in cookery and were surprised with a mystery box. Inside the mystery box, students were given a design brief with a few ingredients and their challenge was to present a taco/nacho inspired dish whilst ensuring that the nutritional value was increased with a range of other ingredients available. The pressure was on especially when it was declared that one team had a 20 minute head start! Students worked well together in their teams to not only think creatively about plating up but also ensuring that all the cleaning was completed by the 1pm deadline so that they could enjoy the Mexican feast.
Year 12
Year 12’s have had a busy term with lots of practical tasks linked to theoretical components of the study design. One of their favourites was incorporating molecular gastronomy into their studies when learning about food trends and the influence on consumers and fusion cookery. Students prepared bubble tea and served the popping boba bubbles on a panna cotta to make a fusion dessert.
