Careers
This week our Year 11 students listened to a presentation from the La Trobe University Student Engagement Team. During this session students listened to information about the Aspire and Bradford Programs that are available to all students at the college. Participation in the Bradford Program has a lot of benefits for our students during their final year. Students who complete the program will receive an early conditional offer for a course at La Trobe University at a lowered ATAR. They will also have access to an English tutor and receive support with their studies throughout the year. It is free and done in a study period once every two weeks. If you are interested in applying and missed the session see your Careers Practitioner for enrolment forms.
Year 12 students attended a presentation from Centrelink to talk about what supports may be available for them as they leave school at the end of the year. Youth Allowance, Abstudy and Relocation Scholarships are available depending on eligibility. Contact Centrelink for more details or to discuss your situation.
Year 10 students were also involved in a presentation where the topic was about casual and part time jobs. Christmas is not far away and many large businesses will be looking at putting on more staff.
This is an excellent time for students to gain employment and start developing important employability skills for the future. Websites like seek – www.seek.com.au and jora - https://au.jora.com are good starting points and currently have lots of jobs advertised. Careers staff are also advertising jobs on our Senior Secondary Careers TEAMS page available to students from Year 10 – 12. Any Year 9 students interested can contact their careers practitioner to get their name added. There is also a Facebook page – Greater Shepparton Secondary College Careers where Careers staff also advertise jobs for students.
