Stage 5 International Studies Tea Ceremony

Stage 5 International Studies has been researching a heavy topic within Contemporary Cultural Issues for the next assessment task since the beginning of this term. We took some time off to appreciate Japanese culture and cherry blossoms Monday afternoon.  I invited a student from our class to share her cultural experience of this tradition with you:

In Stage 5 International Studies this week, we learnt about, and performed, a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. We all dressed in colourful Japanese kimonos, and Sensei taught us how traditional Japanese tea ceremonies took place. It was amazing to learn about such a unique and culturally important ritual.

Each step was very precise from bowing to one another, to the specific technique for mixing matcha tea! And aside from a few spills, I think by the end of it we got the hang of it. It was especially nice to sit under the blooming cherry blossoms!

Thank you Sensei for such a fun and interesting experience.
