Grade 1/2

Gardening Program:

Last week students in Grade 1 had the opportunity to harvest some of our delicious veggies that we have been growing as part of our gardening program. Students also cleaned out the chicken coop and did pruning and weeding. The gardens are looking terrific. Thanks to all the parent helpers who have been assisting with this and with our chicken program.

Riverflow Community Rainwater Incursion:

Last Friday all Grade ones, twos and Green Thumbs got to be involved in a presentation about why clean water is important and how we can help with simple things like a raingarden. Students worked in groups to make their own water treatment experiment from a plastic bottle. They had to test whether a coffee filter, cotton balls, paper towel or chux would help clean dirty water.

Coding:

In Maths we have been learning about location, directions and mapping. Grade 1s enjoyed drawing a pathway and programming a Bee Bot to get from start to finish. They also created some fantastic Pirate Maps which included coodinates, a compass and a key.

Arts Fest:

Prep to 2 students worked very hard to plan, design and paint their community garden rocks and bird houses throughout the term. They enjoyed having them on display at our Arts Festival afternoon on Tuesday. Here are some of the wonderful designs:

Buddies:

Students got creative and enjoyed designing a Football jersey or banner with their buddies yesterday afternoon.
