Then we had the Have A Go Night!, Book week, Author visit, Professor Bunsen - I did hear him call Professor Bunsen Burner the other day!!. Footy Fun Day, Hot pies, sausage sizzle, canteen and we did ask Are you OK and meant it!

Its been big! Behind the scenes we have worked hard completing the School Review - a huge task - where many hands make light work! Staff meetings, School Improvement Team meetings, School Council Meetings. On the ground we have had our working bee, our oval has had it maintenance work done, old solar panels are of the roof and new ones are going on - lots happening at ACPS.

Huge thank you to Julie Clarke for co-ordinating the whole Festival. Maggie Spillane for organising the performances and all the staff for working with the students to create their artwork each week in class.

Brilliant photos once again by Jimmy Harris - thanks Jimmy!

Arts Festival

Thank you to all those who came on Tuesday afternoon and supported our students at the Arts Festival. A big thank you to Jimmy Harris (School Council President) and the BBQ team, Jo in the canteen and the student helpers for the delicious sausage sizzle and treats before the Festival officially began. A great way to start the afternoon!

Students have been busy this term designing and creating their artworks, and it was fantastic to have them on display and visited by so many people. And what wonderful creative works were on show throughout the school! The classrooms were buzzing as excited students and their families had a chance to see their own and others' creations - from bird houses and painted rock art in the younger grades, through to weavings and photography in the middle grades, and then skateboards, calico signs, and shoes for the senior grades. The artroom also became a gallery and a visual feast of art, showcasing what students were making in art classes with Mrs Clarke. African animals were the theme for preps, including their torn-paper elephants, collaged lions and construction giraffes. Grades 1 and 2 focused on fish with their clay fish and drawings of fish with emotions. Students in grades 3 and 4 had an arctic animal theme and displayed their clay polar bears and painted arctic foxes. The 5 and 6 students showed their theme of birds through their whimsical clay birds and woven owls. A big 'thank you!' to those grade 5/6 students who helped set up the artroom on Tuesday to be ready for the Festival.

And it didn't finish there! Following from the Visual Arts in the classrooms and artroom was the Performing Arts in the theatre. Students in the younger and middle grades were able to showcase and entertain the audience with what they have been learning in Performing Arts classes with Mrs Spillane, including songs, dances and rhythmic percussion. To complete the Arts Festival afternoon, we were treated to a short preview of some of our students performing in the upcoming musical, The Lion King, competently led by Gavin Andrew. The musical will be held in term 4.

Thank you to our students in participating in the making and creating of the Arts Festival, and to all those families who were able to come and support the students and ACPS.

Warm Welcome to Warrandyte High School

My name is Rachel Lynch. At the start of Term 3 I commenced as the newly appointed Principal at Warrandyte High School. With over 17 years’ experience in education and leadership, I bring a refreshed and renewed energy to the school and wider community.

Fully immersing myself in daily life at Warrandyte, I have been spending my days getting to know the students and staff at the school while setting the foundations to bring Warrandyte High School to life again. With a $3.4 million refurbishment about to commence in the Arts Precinct, I am keen to harness the creative spirit of the Warrandyte community and plan on enhancing the connections with

 local artists and the school.

Our Sports Academies in both Basketball and Aussie Rules will continue for many years to come, and this, combined with our Arts precinct, serve to cater for a wide variety of students. My vision is to work closely with our staff to ensure students at Warrandyte High School thrive through driving excellence in teaching and learning, particularly in the areas of literacy and numeracy while promoting a culture of high expectations.

I make a strong commitment to our local community that each student who completes their education at Warrandyte High School will be well-prepared for life in the 21st century, will have the best opportunities to realise their full potential and will develop the personal skills and qualities to see them become outstanding members of the Warrandyte and wider community. Join me on Tuesday October 11 at our inaugural ‘Warrandyte High School Community Event’ where you can meet me in person and hear more about my vision for our school and our future plans.
