Principal's Update

Dear parents/carers,

Welcome to the 2022 school year! We hope you had a lovely summer break and feel rested as your child/ren return to school.   It has been a smooth start to date, and we thank our families for helping students settle into the new school year.

We are hoping all things COVID related settle down over the course of term 1 so that we can focus on building our community connections through events such as the Welcome Picnic, parent helpers, trivia nights, assemblies etc.  We are in limbo at the moment but as soon as the guidelines allow we look forward to welcoming our parents/carers back into the school setting.

RAPID ANTIGEN TESTING

A reminder that families are encouraged to use the rapid antigen testing kits provided by the school to screen your child/ren for COVID-19.  We suggest testing  on a Monday and Wednesday for students in grades 1-6 and Monday and Thursday for our Foundation students.  Positive results should be reported to the school and the Department of Health.  We will be providing additional rapid antigen testing for students next week.

Alongside rapid antigen testing, ventilation and the other vital COVIDSafe measures the school has implemented, supporting as many students as possible to be vaccinated will help make our school as safe as possible.

Bookings for children aged 5 to 11 to receive the paediatric Pfizer vaccine are open and we encourage parents and carers to get your child vaccinated if you haven’t already done so.

The Pfizer vaccine is recommended for children. The vaccine will help protect your child from getting sick from COVID-19, help to reduce the spread of COVID-19, and help ensure kids can have more time at school and playing with their friends.

Vaccinations for children aged 5-11 years old are delivered at 2 appointments, 8 weeks apart. Children with specific medical vulnerabilities can access their second dose 3 weeks after their first dose.

If you’d like more information about this, you can read a recent statement from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI):

There are many ways to make a booking:

NEW BUILD (GRADE 5 AND 6 CENTRE)

The new build is coming along nicely, and whilst slightly behind schedule, we should be able to move into the building late in term 2, ready for a term 3 start.  This building will be for our grade 5 and 6 students.  It will be exciting when we finally get to move in and enjoy the beautiful views over Darling Gardens.

CURRICULUM DAY (STUDENT FREE)

Our next curriculum day will be  Wednesday 2nd March.  This will be a parent-teacher information session.  Their Care will operate on this day.  Bookings are now open.

SCHOOL PHOTOS

School photos will be held on Friday 4th March.  Sibling photos and graduation photos will take place later in the school year.

SCHOOL COUNCIL 2022

Details for the School Council elections for 2022 will be provided to families on Monday 7th February.  I encourage all parents and carers to consider putting themselves forward.  We will need all hands on deck to get our fundraising and community events up and running again in 2022.

AMBULANCE COVER

Families are reminded that the Department does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents and guardians of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs.

PERSONAL INSURANCE

Personal property is often brought to school by students and visitors. This can include mobile phones, calculators, toys and sporting equipment. As the Department does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property, students and visitors are discouraged from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school.

PRIVACY POLICY

Our school collects, uses, discloses and stores student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy. Please take time to familiarise yourself with the Department of Education and Training's Schools' Privacy Policy.

SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL

A reminder that there is no supervision for students prior to 8:45am and we request that parents/carers do not drop their children off until 8:45am.  This is for your child’s safety.

Students found in the yard prior to 8:45am will be sent to the office or to TheirCare.

We also ask that if you know you are going to be late to collect your child that you let the office know.  That way we can have children wait in the classroom or at the office until your arrival.  If you are going to be more than 15 minutes late we ask that you contact TheirCare to make a booking.

Please reach out to your classroom teacher at any time. We wish all our students and families a great start to the new school year.

Take care,

Megan
