Years 8 & 9

What a positive start to the year we have had, our Year 8 and 9 students have returned full of enthusiasm, ready to learn. Our teachers have returned with the same enthusiasm and already we have seen some excellent relationships being established.
We are super pleased with the way our students have settled back into routine and are upholding our College Values following on from transition at the end of 2021.
Having said that, it is never easy to get back into the swing of things after being out of routine over the holidays. We thank, appreciate and ask for your continued assistance around the reinforcement of correct school uniform and mask wearing. Masks are mandatory and non-negotiable whilst students are inside any building or classroom, unless there has been an exemption granted by our College principal.
Due to our reduced capacity to hold assemblies Hub staff have been and will continue to visit classes reinforcing expectations and our College Values. It has been extremely pleasing to see the number of students receiving value points for demonstrating these Values. We can see it won’t be long before postcards and vouchers are being handed out.
Some of our extra curricular activities are kicking off this week. Our Popular Interests Group began on Wednesday with a Harry Potter Theme in the Library. This will take place weekly with a different focus each week. Gipps Sport was back this week for Year 8 students in the BARC, this week’s focus was Spike Ball, a lot of fun was had and students are looking forward to the next session.
Moving forward we will be holding Alpine school interviews for those students that applied in Term 4 of last year. We will also be looking at a range of Student Leadership opportunities to increase student voice in the coming weeks, please keep your eyes and ears open for further information.
If as a parent you have any questions or concerns please contact the Hub Staff and as a student, please come and see us and let us know if there is anything that we can help you with or if there is any support you may need.
Respect, Responsibility and Resilience – high expectations and excellence in everything we do.
We would like to introduce our 2022 team.

In Year 8 science students have been learning about elements, the different types of atoms that make up all substances. This week some classes have applied their science investigation skills to an experiment in which they used a chemical reaction to produce the element hydrogen. If successful, the hydrogen makes a loud ‘pop’ when exposed to a flame, the students enjoyed testing this!
Year 9 Photography students were capturing subject matter which displayed art elements, principles and composition. Students take up to 50 photographs per session, edit them and print them off to be framed
On the first day back some Year 9 students got to enjoy being back in their elective classes, creating and continuing on with the work they started in transition. Year 9 Wood Design were continuing to create their own tables as part of their wood design pieces this semester.
