Year 7 Team
Year 7 and 8 Update
End of year
With our last newsletter for the year, I would like to say thankyou to all the staff, students and parents for a challenging, but successful year at Morwell Campus. Right from the start of the year, the Year 7 and 8 students and staff have worked hard though adversity and shown resilience in a challenging environment. As the students progress into the next year of their schooling, I believe they are well set up for a successful 2022.
As a school, we are planning to bridge any gap in each child’s learning due to the shutdowns and remote learning, as well as planning extension for those students who need to be pushed along in their learning journey.
I would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope that all our students, staff and our parents have a restful break.
KPA
This time of year, is a great chance to look back and reflect on the year that has been. One of great successes from 2021 was the introduction of the Kurnai Positive Acknowledgment system. We have had over 40,000 KPA entries this year; this means our students at Morwell had demonstrated 40,000 different behaviors from our Kurnai PBS Matrix that have been recognised by our staff. This is a tremendous effort by all parties involved.
The following students are our highest KPA recipients this year:
Isabella CALNAN | 373 |
Ayla SCHIAVELLO | 366 |
Emmy RANDALL | 366 |
Sarah WATSON | 363 |

Fantastic work by these students, and we look forward to what all our students can demonstrate next year.
Orientation and Scholarships
Last week, we saw our newest Kurnai students start their high school journey. Orientation was held with all 2022 Year 7 students learning last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday how to read their timetables, open their lockers, where their classrooms are, and meeting all their teachers. Feedback from the students and the primary schools has all been positive and we look forward to helping all our newest students to settle in early next year.
We are also privileged to attend our feeder schools’ Grade 6 Graduation Ceremonies. A major award at these ceremonies is the recognition of each school’s Dux. We are proud to award those students with a $1000 academic scholarship if they are attending Kurnai next year.
At the time of this Newsletter, 3 of 4 of our feeder primary ceremonies have been completed and we would like to recognise the following scholarship award recipients.
Morwell Central Primary – Elisha Price
Morwell Park Primary – Jorja Smith
St. Vincent’s Primary – Lacey Forster
And at the time of publication of this Newsletter, Scared Heart Primary Grade 6 Graduation has not been held.
